David Faraday BSc PhD FHEA CEng MIChemE

Experience & Background

David spent twelve years as a Senior Lecturer at the University of Surrey, where he consistently received outstanding feedback for his teaching and won a range of teaching and research grants. As Industrial Placement Tutor for Chemical Engineering, David found it was easier to get students placements, and subsequently jobs, if they had received training in Leadership, Team Working, Problem Solving and Communication. David left academia in 2003 to run Evolve Leadteam with Shirley and has been an adventurous, popular trainer ever since.

David is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, a Member of the Institution of Chemicals Engineers and a Chartered Engineer. David is also a Key Associate of the Leadership Foundation in Higher Education and an Associate of Adair Leadership Development and accredited to train at Strategic, Operational and Team Leader Levels.

	What are your specialist areas?

	Action Centred Leadership; Structuring courses to handle large numbers of delegates efficiently and effectively; Designing courses that are intrinsically successful and can achieve dependable feedback; Leadership Profiling.

	What words would you use to describe you professionally?

	Enthusiastic, organised, structured, able to create a ‘safe’ training environment, professional.

	What are your professional goals?

	To have a happy and balanced working life. To make leadership training as widely available as possible.

	What is your greatest professional achievement?

	In 2001, I was awarded the inaugural Frank Morton Medal for Excellence in Teaching in Chemical Engineering by the Institute of Chemical Engineers. I also led the team which developed whiskey stills for the Penderyn Distillery in Wales.

		What is your favourite professional book, publication or article and why?

		‘Where Does Money Come From?’ Josh Ryan Collins & Tony Greenham. I’m still somewhat amazed by this revelation.
